Playful Parks

Parks and green spaces are treasured assets particularly in urban and built up areas where they are often central to the lives of their communities.

They provide opportunities for leisure, relaxation and exercise, but are also fundamental to community cohesion, physical and mental health and wellbeing, biodiversity, climate change mitigation, and local economic growth. Public Parks House of Commons 2017

Parks face challenges too and in recent years been subject to services and budget cuts which has led to maintenance and upkeep issues.

A great way to support parks is to join or create a Friends of Group. Bristol Parks Forum campaigns to protect and enhance all public green space in the City of Bristol and gives a link to all the Friends of Groups in Bristol.

Groundwork South support people to work collectively to make their surroundings greener, safer and healthier and to get more involved in the way decisions are made about their area.  They help people of all ages work together to protect, preserve, improve or create parks, play areas, allotments and gardens, and many other spaces that matter to them. They also work in partnership with Bristol’s Friends of Park groups, to engage more young people aged 11-25 in their local parks.
